Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has signed two agreements with SLB and Viridien to deploy advanced seismic technologies and extend the Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG) digital platform in the East Mediterranean, the company said.
The first agreement covers a 95,000-square-kilometre advanced seismic survey using ocean bottom nodes technology, signed by the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company and the SLB–Viridien alliance.
The second agreement extends the EUG platform contract for three more years with USD 44 million in new investments, signed by the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and SLB.
Launched in 2020, the EUG is Egypt’s national upstream digital platform that consolidates and streamlines access to subsurface data, supporting exploration bids and promoting new investment in the country’s hydrocarbons sector.
“Applying modern technologies contributes to promoting investments and attracting global players,” Egypt’s petroleum minister, Eng. Karim Badawi, said.
SLB provides technologies for reservoir characterisation, drilling, production and processing. In Egypt, SLB is active in upstream services and digital subsurface solutions.
Viridien, based in France, specialises in geoscience services including seismic data acquisition, imaging and reservoir characterisation for oil and gas exploration globally.
